主 讲 人 简 介 | Helen Spencer-Oatey is Professor and Director of the Centre for Applied Linguistics at the University of Warwick, UK. Her primary research interests are in intercultural interaction and intercultural pragmatics. She has published extensively in these fields (e.g. Culturally Speaking, Continuum, 2000/2008; Intercultural Interaction, with Peter Franklin, Palgrave, 2009) and she has developed extensive resources for practitioners, many of which are freely available via the University of Warwick’s Global PAD website. | ||||
讲座 主要内容 | Managing relations is an important aspect of all interaction, but it can be especially challenging in intercultural interaction. In this talk, I use an authentic example of an ‘intercultural ‘incident’ involving Chinese and American professionals to explore three main issues: 1.How can ‘politeness’ be conceptualised? 2.How can ‘culture’ be conceptualised? 3.How can these frameworks help us understand and interpret the ‘intercultural incident’? |
